Guidelines to Assist National Authorities with Regard to the Formulation of Transplant Policies and Laws

Organ transplantation is being successfully carried out in most countries in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia [1]. However, not all countries have laws that permit, regulate or foster transplantation in all its different aspects. Organ transplantation is not simply a complex operation: the use of legal and cadaver donors creates additional important ethical, legal, religious and philosophical concerns. There may exist conflicting interests or values, as well as a potential for abuse.
