Figure 2 Macroscopic findings: Before ischemia of the liver, both the liver and small intestine showed no abnormalities. After 30 min of ischemia of the liver, the liver surfaces appeared ischemic and the small intestines became distended, congested, and dark red (A). Five hours after reperfusion, the liver surfaces of the ischemia–reperfusion (IR) and IR+milrinone groups appeared brown and slightly congested. The small intestines of the IR group remained congested and slightly distended. These findings in the small intestines were attenuated in the IR+milrinone group (B). White arrows, small intestine.
