1. Age

2. Compatible ABO blood groups

3. Appropriate and matched size

4. PaO/FiO ratio >300 mmHg on 5 cm HO positive end-expiratory pressure

5. Few purulent secretions at bronchoscopy with good, stable/improving function

6. Minor diffuse chest radiographic changes with good, stable/improving function

7. Positive sputum cultures without pan-drug resistant bacteria
