Abstract
This review paper outlines the physiological evidence for the benefit derivedfrom sport after an organ transplant. The psychological and social benefit which follows the taking partin sporting competitions is also briefly examined. The part played by the World Transplant Games Federation,the proficiency, the results achieved and details of the various events held are described. The surprisinglyeffective part which graded physical exercise plays in overcoming the handicaps imposed on the recipientsof a successful organ transplant by the effects of preceding long-term illness, necessary medicationincluding immunosuppressive therapy and a non innervated organ is examined.
