Abstract
Composites are perspective materials for permanent fillings in dentistry. The microstructures of these materials composed of polymer matrix and ceramic reinforcing particles, can be nowadays precisely designed for specific applications. In the present work methods for the quantitative studies of the microstructure of fillers have been developed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and computer image analysis have been used to reveal the relevant microstructural features. Equivalent diameter of ceramic particles, their shape and volume fraction were measured which can be used for models explaining their properties.
