Cardiac transplantation in Krakow

Abstract
In October 1988 the Krakow heart transplantation program was initiated at the Cardiac and Vascular Surgery Department, Institute of Cardiology. Until December 1995, 137 patients, 114 male and 23 female have undergone primary orthotopic heart transplantation (Figure 1). The recipients' age ranged from 9 to 68years, the majority of patients were between 43 and 53 years old. Three children were grafted at 9,15,16 years of age respectively.
