It is the propose of this short paper to address issues in organ donation and transplantation which are quite specific to the Latin-American region. Although organ transplantation has been carried out in the region for the last forty years it has been only in the last twenty years that transplantation has been used as a treatment for end stage organ disease and that format data have been kept to allow for meaningful statistics on the prevalence of this treatment. A brief description of the heterogeneity of the region willbe followed by comments on social and political issues Latin-America, and a discussion of transplant and problems and accomplishments and results.
