Abstract

On August 23, 1995 an amendment to the Israeli Penal Code, 1977, came into force. The amendment states that a person shall not be criminally responsible for an act if committed by him on a person with his lawful consent while administering medical action or treatment for the patient's benefit or the benefit of another [1]. One of the results of this amendment is that since that date an able adult person has had the capacity to consent to removal of parts from his body to be transplanted in another living person [2].
