Surrogate Biomarkers of Long-term Outcome after Kidney Transplantation
Leendert C PaulAnn Transplant 2000; 5(2): 5-6 :: ID: 497518
Abstract
A recent analysis of the USRDS material has shown that the median cadaveric renal transplant survival has improved from 64.5 months in 1986-1987 to 101.8 months in 1992-1993[1], an improvement of almost 60%. The reason for this improved outcome is multifactorial and reflects very likely improved patient survival, increasing experience, and more potent immunosuppression. Chronic rejection remains the main reason for graft failure with censoring for death with a functioning transplant.
